Models are some of the most creative people that I know. As a model we have the opportunity to observe many aspects of the fashion industry. Many of us go on to become stylists, bookers, agents, and photographers. Some of us move laterally into something totally different or even open a blog.
So when I arrive in Sydney, I kept hearing rumors about this model who was blogging and taking photos–and it wasn’t me! I went on the search and googled online to find Zanita! A kindred spirit in blogging, modelling and such a talented photographer! I was hooked–but how to meet her? I tried leaving comments, no reply, and finally, I got to meet her in a cafe through her blogger friend Style Scout.
I was on the case and finally, my wish came true, we put together a shooting with a theme inspired by the Little Mermaid called “Triton’s Daughter” a whimsical, lost story and tragic theme. We pulled together our friends in the fashion industry such as Dan Jones to design a special dress, Nicola Finetti for his fish-tail, shimmering gowns, 7persAustralia for their exquisite crustacean necklaces, Mrs. Press for her transparent, whispering lingerie and vintage couture beaded dress, and Camilla Franks for her sheer black billowing kaftan.
Zanita drove us at 5am out to the edges of Australia (felt like) and then we had to hike (models can hike!) out to the cliffs. Being a model herself, Zanita knows about how to keep warm in between shots and how to deal with wind, light, feeling, and movement. Every shot she told me what to do and the mood she wanted–it was so wonderful and exciting to work with her.
Magic starts to happen when you are really working in a good team, and as I sat down in the grass, I had some little friends come to meet us who were wearing their own natural tuxedos. Zanita captured every detail of the clothing, and with an eye trained by the best she can see into the soul of what you are wearing.
Thank you Zanita for your inspiration as a model, photographer, friend, and special woman. See the photos from KING TRITON’S DAUGHTER on Zanita’s blog.
